At www.canyoneeringnorthwest.com we have added
photos and beta for Lost Creek in Oregon. Also at the
bottom of the oregon page we added photos of canyons
at Steens Mountain and Crater Lake national park. On
the California links page at the bottom there are

At www.canyoneeringnorthwest.com we have added more
photos of Lost Creek (in Oregon) contributed by Matt
Moore. Also we have added much improved beta and
some photos of Dog Creek in the Columbia Gorge. This
is on the south cascades page.

At www.canyoneeringnorthwest.com we have added photos
of Pure Hate Gorge(provided by Matt Moore) in
oregon, and photos and beta for Sardine Creek in
Oregon. Also we have added limited beta on two new
canyon prospects which look to be very promising. One
is Upper Opal Creek which can be found on the Opal
Creek page. The other is Wells Creek near Mount Baker.
It is on the North cascades prospect page. Both
canyons have very good access but will need a vehicle
shuttle.

It has been four years since my son Benjamin and I
started
www.canyoneeringnorthwest.com We started out with
24 canyons and no pictures. Since then we have tripled
the number of canyons with beta and added over 900
photos. This would not have happened without the
generous contributions of many people who provided
beta, suggestions and photos. I would like to thank
Jeff Baird, Matt Bannon, Joe Bugden, Rob Cobb, Scott
Coburn, Craig Coonrad, Mike Dallin, Matt Goff, Dusty
Goldscheider, David Haavik, Mike Hagen, Hank Hays,
Chris Hood, Owen Jones, Tom Kloster, Benjamin Leibert,
Ira Lewis, Matt Moore, Thomas Oetzell, Charly
Oliver, Tim Olson, Herb Shairbaum, Tracy Spiva,
Bryan Swan and Jim Witty. I apologize to any one whom
I might have left out.

Canyoneeringnorthwest is not about the canyoneering
activities of just one person, but of the general
northwest canyoneering community. There is no need to
register, no special circle of friends to join,
and no teases in which canyon descriptions are
provided, but the name and location of the canyons
are omitted. It is based on the principles of
openness, sharing, and goodwill to all. Credit is
given for beta and photos unless people wish to remain
anonymous.

A very unusual feature is that information is provided
about canyons which may not have been descended yet.
There is no concern about who might do them first.

A few canyons have been purposely omitted because they
are on posted public or private property on which you
risk arrest merely by being there. The Cedar River has
a scenic canyon with waterfalls. Oops! Now you know
about it. Its in the closed Seattle watershed, so you
cant go there. The Grand Canyon of the Nisqually
River is very beautiful. If you decide to do it, bring
enough money to bail yourself out of jail.

I believe that northwest canyoneering is still in its
infancy, and that we have not come even remotely close
to realizing its potential. Chris Hood has identified
over 200 canyons within a three hour drive of
Vancouver. This represents about 5% of the land area
of British Columbia. Imagine what the whole province
holds. Oregon outside of the Columbia Gorge has seen
very little activity. I have tried to increase the
number of Oregon Canyons on the site. Matt Moore has
done much exploration and has generously provided beta
and photos for some of these. If there are other
areas that you would like to see emphasized, or if you
have any suggestions on how to improve the website
please let me know.

Ken,

Nice email you put together there, and thanks for keeping up the site.

craig

PS: My '07 canyon season has been a bit of a bummer! A sprained ankle and
too much time humping my cubicle for the man. I've been climbing some big
doug firs and cedars though and trying to keep handy with the ropes. So I
plan to keep using your site and hopefully contributing more in the
future.

We have added several new canyon prospects for the
North Cascades in washington. Sulphide creek is of
particular interest. This seldom seen canyon
originates on the slopes of Mount Shuksan. The only
available photos were taken from an airplane. The
waterfalls are very high. The total drop of the canyon
is 2000 feet. Check it out at
www.canyoneeringnorthwest.com and let me know what you
think.
