Washington Canyon Partner needed.
Hey Everyone,
I grew up here in Washington but have spent the last 4 years canyoneering in New Zealand. I am here for the Summer until Sept or Oct to play. I have all my gear with me and would really like to use it. The water levels are pretty high across Western Washington at the moment but when they drop I'd like to be dropping too. Let me know if you're interested?
Thanks,
JD
| Hey, I'd be interested in some. I've done many canyons in UT and a few in BC but never any of the canyons here in Wa, and have been looking to do some. Keep me posted on your plans Thanks Derek --- On Fri, 7/13/12, jd.osborn <jd.osborn@yahoo.com> wrote:

Hey Ira,Yeah, I'd definitely like to jump on that trip with you guys! Sounds Epic! What canyons are you planning to tackle?
I live out of Queenstown in New Zealand so I've spent quite a bit of time in the canyons around there, Wanaka and the Haast Pass area and I've done Tui and Kaumira canyons outside of Christchuch as well. I did Summit Creek, Davis Creek, Skookum Falls, and Mesatchee Creek here in Washington 2 summers ago too. I've been leading my own trips for about a year now with inexperienced friends. That is sort of the extent of my canyoning background.
I've met Jethro before but haven't done any trips with him, I've talked with Chucky via email and I've heard of the rest of those guys through kiwicanyons yahoo group but haven't met them yet. I love Washington beer and miss it a lot while I'm in NZ. I'm not sure what you're using to organize this trip in September but email, phone (360 348 8024) or I'm on the old BookFace as well just search jpowell87@aol.com, whatever works best.
Cheers,JD

JD,I used to live in the Seattle area and now reside in Boulder, CO.In 2008, I spent 3.5 weeks on the South Island with Chucky exploring Blue and Granity Creeks in Kahurangi NP, Twin Creek at Arthur's Pass, and near Hass Pass: a first descent near Makarora with Chucky, Jethro and Alain, Cross Creek, Robinson's, and Wilsons, and Woolshed Creek near Christchurch.I'm planning a PNW Cascades tour September 1-9 with several people already. With travel days on both ends, that probably means canyons from the 2nd to 8th. Would you like to be in on the planning? What is your background around NZ? Have you mostly done canyons on the North Island or the South? Do you know Jethro Robinson, Alain, Chucky, or Toine (I haven't met Toine directly). What do you think of Washington beer?Congratulations on spending your 'winter' in the PNW.cheers,IraOn Fri, Jul 13, 2012 at 10:48 AM, jd.osborn <jd.osborn@yahoo.com> wrote:

Hey Ira,Yeah, that list looks good! Wallace is big on my list and would also like to do Thorton but Wallace for sure. Not sure if anyone has experience with bolting but Van Trump Creek would be an epic first descent especially doing the Comet Falls side (highestdrop 392ft)... that one has been a dream for a while now. Not sure if anyone has experience with bolting but Van Trump Creek would be an epic first descent especially doing the Comet Falls side (highestdrop 392ft)... that one has been a dream for a while now. I haven't got the time off approved yet but I should be able to be in for the whole trip. Will let you know when I do.Cheers,JDTo: J.D. Osborn <jd.osborn@yahoo.com>

JD,Wow, last week was a blur. I'm sorry - I didn't think I'd let this sit for so long. I blame work chaos.I'm really just organizing via email. I have a love/hate with Facebook and haven't fully committed unless required for event planning.Chris Hood, if you know him from the Vancouver canyon scene, is in on the trip for the first bit and we're thinking of starting at Ape Canyon on Mt St Helens followed by days of migrating north possiblyincludingWallace Falls. To minimize the driving I'm all for working through my tick list and other folks trying to minimize the repeats. I posed an itinerary, but am very much open to suggestions. When I lived in Washington, I rock climbed lots and canyoned little (a shame, really) But I have done Gorge, West Quartz Creek, Devil's, Eagle Creek, Denny Creek, Looper Creek...
I left Seattle and traveled for a year with my canyon gear and did a bunch of canyons in NZ, Australia, Spain, France, and Italy of which NZ was part of that trip.Check out the next message I forward. Specifcally check out the map I put together:http://www.mappingsupport.com/p/gmap4.php?q=mymap,205105402375447469337.0004c093206fdd770f3deCheers,IraOn Mon, Jul 23, 2012 at 12:33 PM, J.D.

Hey Everyone,
I grew up here in Washington but have spent the last 4 years canyoneering in New Zealand. I am here for the Summer until Sept or Oct to play. I have all my gear with me and would really like to use it. The water levels are pretty high across Western Washington at the moment but when they drop I'd like to be dropping too. Let me know if you're interested?
Thanks,
JD
