conditions update 8.07

Tour PNW 2007 last week was a blast. Discovered some interesting
conditions changes I thought would be good to post.

Rainier NP

Carbon River Road
CLOSED to vehicle access through summer (2007) due to flood damage.
Walk-in and bicycle access is permitted by parking at the entrance
and following the designated, rough route along the washed out road.
Call the park at (360) 829-9639 for current road status. Road is
subject to washouts.

Hwy 123-North: (Stevens Canyon Road junction to Cayuse Pass)
CLOSED for the Summer. Flood damage is being repaired. Hwy 123 -
North is closed to all traffic (biking, walking, vehicles). For road
information, check the Washington State Department of Transportation
web site or call 1-800-695-ROAD (7623) toll-free statewide or 206-DOT-
HWY (368-4499) in the greater Seattle area.

Summit Creek and Campground inaccessible.

Davis Creek
Davis Creek Road (aka La Carl Road) is closed approx. one mile from
Hwy. 12. The bridge has washed out. Dirt road to canyon access washed
out as well. You can park at the bottom and walk up (approx. 1.5
miles). Much local destruction.

The canyon has changed significantly. Someone was through before our
descent of 7/27 leaving an assortment of slings and knot chock
anchors. We replaced webbing and rapid links at both the big drop and
bridge drop.

Gorge Creek
Webbing and rapid links replaced throughout. Still running quite high
as of last Saturday. Huge blocks have cleaved off and block (sort of)
the narrows just below the final rappel.
