Canyoning PNW

Walking out of a climbing area in Colorado this weekend we bumped into a ranger. He saw my ACA T-shirt and we struck up a conversation. He asked me what my favorite canyon was. I replied that I thought picking a favorite might be impossible but a front runner would have to be Eagle Creek in Oregon. He said, 'where'? :)

Funny, after all this time, what a hidden gem that part of the world still is.

A few years ago I went to Climb Max Mountaineering (a climbing shop in Portland). I had blown out my Canyoneers after a couple of weeks hiking in the PNW and needed a new pair. Since they sold 5.10 shoes there I assumed they stocked the Canyoneer model. The fella there told me they didn't carry that model since there's no canyoneering in the area. He quickly added that I'd have to go to southern Utah for that.

Go figure. It's like a beachside store in Hawaii not selling flip-flops. Then further telling me there's no surfing in the area!
