Happy fun times in Reunion
Howdy folks,
Just a brief update on a recent, all too-short trip to Reunion. Kind of a last minute thing to...
a.) take advantage of being laid off (again)
b.) take advantage of a "big classic" (3 canyons) offer by Ric-a-Ric, a guide service operating out of St. Leu.
In short, only 2 canyons done. However, 1 canyon justified the entire trip. No exaggeration! The Trou de Fer (d'Enfer) is the best canyon ever, and likely to remain that way. Three drops in the 150 to 270m range, 3 km of slot canyon that looks like 3 Oneontas stacked on top of each other, with a full on river in the bottom. Took 9 of us 24 hours non-stop. The f'n hardest thing I've done in my life! Canyon a Dudu was also incredible, with a Heaps-scale finish at the end. Just awesome! We were also supposed to hit Takamaka 1, but rain intervened while we were sitting at the top on the entry rap. Other than that-lots of hiking, including Piton de la Fournaise and Piton de Neiges (the volcano and the island high point). Heavy alcoholism, lots of fatty foods and incomprehensible French. Have to go back for the smaller stuff next time (I had hoped to hit Fleur Jaune and Trou Blanc as well, during the visit, but rain and timing were issues. After the "day" for Trou de Fer, I was pretty much done for a few days anyway, at least from a canyoning perspective.
I'll be putting together a proper TR once I have all the photos organized, and will post a link here.
Cheers,
Chris
