Hi Ira,
Reunion is a pretty expensive trip, although I probably spent more than necessary. RT cost for the flights was $2200 CDN. You folks down south will probably be able to knock a few hundred off for the flight to Paris. The costs on the ground are pretty similar to continental Europe, and camping isn't really workable on the island. Room and board at one of the Gites de France worked out to about 40-50 euro per night, which really wasn't much better than the hotel I stayed at in Hell-Bourg. With 2 people, splitting the costs on rooms and car rental would bring things down significantly. I'm sure Rob and Joe did much better than me with their house rental, but I was solo and on the fast turnaround. Add in the cost of the guides, and it adds up.
Another year might give me a chance to hit a couple more projects on Van Isle :) Don't know when I'll be getting south again (maybe Freeze-fest?), but I did find a job opening for a geo based out of Greenwood! Hmmm....
Cheers,
Chris
